Yellow Turquoise, MYSTIQUE, 40 " x 48 ", Mixed Media on Canvas

1.40x48_YellowTurquoise_MYSTIQUE.jpg

YELLOW TURQUOISE: Yellow Turquoise is a Copper Aluminum Phosphate mineral with a triclinic crystalline structure. Its striking blues derived from Copper, and its greens and yellows come from Iron. Although named as a stone from Turkey, the best specimens today are found in Iran, Afghanistan, Australia, China, and the Southwestern United States.

Turquoise may be the oldest-used of all gemstones dating back to
Persia 5000 B.C. This popular stone has been fashioned into decorative jewelry, amulets and weapons and is believed to possess properties that bring good fortune, protect from harm, increase wealth and improve communication.

Ancient Arabians called turquoise “Fayruz” meaning lucky stone!

MYSTIQUE reminds us to look for the magic and mysteries in our everyday existence.

Ocean Jasper, ORBICULAR ALCHEMY, 40" x 48", Mixed Media on Canvas10.40x48_OceanJasper_ORBICULARALCHEMY.jpg

OCEAN JASPER: OceanJasper is a colorful variety of Chalcedony often called OrbicularJasper. It is a highly silicified Rhyolite that has Quartz and Feldsparcrystallized into radial aggregates of needle-like crystals formingorbicular (spherical) structures. The many small spheres or 'orbs' inits matrix may appear as circles, stripes or eyes. Some believe thisstone may actually be fossilized coral.

Orbicular Jasper is a recent discovery of 1997 found at low tide on the northwest coast of Madagascar near the village of Morovato ; where it was mined, polished and/or carved then sold to the public as 'Ocean Jasper'. The mine is now depleted.

Ocean Jasper is believed to promote joy, provide protection, and improve creativity.

ALCHEMY reminds us to spend time with nature.

Baculite Mineralized Fossil, TRINITY, 48" x 40", Mixed Media on Canvas40x48_Baculite_Trinity.jpg

BACULITES GREGORYENSIS: (Late Cretaceous Period only) Baculites Gregoryensis is a minerlized Cephalopod fossil and extinct ancestor of the Octopus. Known as the “walking stick rock”, Baculites is distinguished by its straight shelled heteromorphic form and intricately foliated suture lines.

Baculites fossils are found in many deposit beds around the world and range in size up to two meters long. They are most commonly found broken in several pieces, usually along the fragile suture lines. Individual chambers found this way are sometimes referred to as "stone buffalos"due to their anthropomorphic shape. For some of these fossils, eons of intense heat and pressure created a pseudomorphic mineralization process where a variety of silicates and other elements replaced the brittle fossil structures “turning them to stone” so to speak.

Their colors are generally rich ochre, umber, or sienna, contoured by lighter suture lines that create vibrant distinctions between the shellular growth patterns.

TRINITY reminds us to look beyond the particles and notice the details of life's intricate inner-connectedness.
